What will I Need:
You will need a scroll saw, any scroll saw that makes a vertical cut, allows you to cut in a straight line and also allows you to cut around relatively tight corners, is all you will need for this intarsia.
For this Dolphin you need a few pieces of 2 different colors of wood, a small piece of 1/4'' plywood for the backing board and finishing oil.
Check with a local woodworking shop for some of their waste wood. They may enjoy helping you with your wood needs. The wood you use must be kiln dried.
How Do I Know If My Saw Is Cutting Vertically?
How to determine whether your scroll saw is cutting vertically. Take a small scrap (2"-3" square is enough) of 3/4'' thick wood, put a fine blade into your saw and cut out a rounded plug. The plug should be between 1/4'' - 1/2'' diameter.
Check to see if the plug will easily slide out of the wood, both through the top and the bottom of the hole the plug came from. If you have trouble removing the plug, in either direction, your saw is not cutting true vertical. You will need to adjust your saw
